The indigo, crimson, maize and sky blue ogival medallion containing a quatrefoil anchored on the tomato-red field with ton-sur-ton blue angular palmette vinery with part medallions in the spandrels within an indigo floral vinery border

Pile: wool, Z2, symmetric knots, 0 to 40 degrees alternate warp depression, H7xV9-10

Ends: top, up to 3/8in. red Z2 wool, weft-faced plainweave with traces of a blue wool stripe; bottom, not original
Colors: Turkey red, dark blue, black, pale yellow, sapphire, medium blue-green, light blue-green, deep green, ivory, salmon, light blue, spruce

The carpet offered here has particularly elaborate tracery in the medallion and the corner spandrels. The border is unusual and well executed. All of this suggests and indicates a fairly early date.
