The ovoid urn-shaped case cast with acanthus ornament, with twin ring handles below an acanthine pineapple finial, the circular white enamel Roman and Arabic dial signed VICTOR PAILLARD F.T DE BRONZES, A PARIS, within an oak leaf cast bezel, the case flanked by two seated allegorical figures of semi-naked young women, one holding a globe, the other with a chart, the plinth inset with a frieze panel depicting cavorting putti, the oval breakfront platform with beaded border, on toupie feet (some feet loose)
