'The Origins of the Land' was commissioned by the Festival of Britain Office in April 1950 and completion was requested by 31 January 1951. The work was actually finished in March and was installed in the 'Land of Britain' pavilion. The finished canvas (167½ x 129in.) is in the collection of the Tate Gallery, London
