FIVE GEORGE II SIDE CHAIRS AND A LATER OPEN ARMCHAIR

Each with serpentine toprail terminating in foliate scrolls and cabochons, above a pierced splat with foliate Gothic arches flanked by the reeded uprights, the serpentine padded seat covered in white calico above cabriole legs headed by a foliate cartouche with central cabochon and foliate angle brackets, on claw-and-ball feet, three with later brackets, the front legs possibly later (6)

The chair pattern with Gothic ribbon splat relates to those illustrated in Thomas Chippendale's Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Directors, 1754-63, pl. XV, and in A Society of Upholsterer's Genteel Household Furniture, circa 1765, p. 14
