The case with foliate cast gilt-metal handle to the inverted bell top flanked by ball-and-spire finials, cast gilt-metal sound frets to the glazed sides and in quarter frets to the front door with later foliate engraved gilt-metal escutcheon, similar later escutcheon to the rear door, the arched dial signed Jos. Windmills London. above the silvered chapter ring with pierced blued steel hands, the matted centre with mock pendulum aperture, female mask-and-foliate spandrels, the arch with large silvered calendar dial with matted gilt sunburst centre, the five ringed pillar movement with twin gut fusees, strike on later bell, later anchor escapement, the pull quarter repeat system now entirely removed, the foliate engraved backplate signed in the centre Jos. Windmills London within a foilate cartouche
