Lot Essay

John Mortimer and John Samuel Hunt were partners between 1839-1843. Hunt was previously employed as a chaser in Dean Street circa 1810 before joining the celebrated silversmith Paul Storr in about 1820. In 1822 Storr retired and the business was run by John Mortimer and the company traded under Storr and Mortimer listed from 1823 as gold and silversmiths. Hunt was subsequently admitted into the partnership and then later the company was renamed Mortimer & Hunt in 1839. Mortimer retired in 1843 and the name was changed to Hunt & Roskell listed at 156 New Bond Street
