A Dutch Walnut longcase clock
C. Kroon, Leeuwarden; third quarter 18th century
The case with chequer-inlaid front panel with floral marquetry to the bombé plinth on claw-and-ball feet, the arched rectangular trunk door with similar chequer inlay and foliate carved decoration, the lenticle with a gilt-brass rococo frame centred by the figure of Chronos, the hood with canted angles and surmounted by a caddy top with foliate carving, the silvered dial with silvered chapter ring with arcaded Roman and Arabic chapters, blued steel hands, the matted centre signed C=Kroon=Leeuwarden on a pierced foliate cartouche above the calendar aperture, central alarm disc, the subsidiary seconds ring with central foliate engraving and flanked by apertures for days of the week and the months, the four pillar two train movement with anchor escapement and Dutch strike and alarm on two bells
