The case on bun feet with fluted columns and engine-turned panels to the front, sides and top, foliate pierced bronze sound frets to the hinged rear door, the circular gilt Roman dial signed Payne & Co. New Bond St. London, black-painted moon hands, the centre engraved with foliage and fantastical bird above a basket of fruit, the twin chain fusee movement with vertical escapement having the balance cock and gilt three-arm balance wheel vertically mounted on the back-plate with the lever and 'scape wheel on the inside of the back-plate, strike/trip repeat on a blued steel gong, the back-plate engraved Payne, 163 New Bond Street London. 5868
