A VERY RARE AND ATTRACTIVE PAIR OF CARVED JADEITE PENDANTS
Each oval drop very well carved and pierced with a motif of finger citron and persimons, surmounted by a bat on one side and a musical chime on the other, representing the rebus shi shi jing fu, or happiness in all matters, suspended from a freely rotating ring, set with a gold bail, the highly translucent material a bright emerald green with areas of paler green, Qing dynasty
Pendants 27.2 x 17.6 x 10.8 mm and 27.1 x 17.7 x 11.4 mm
The shape and carving of these pendants suggest that they are used as terminal pendants for court rosaries. For a complete court rosary with jadeite pendants suspended from rotating hoop, see Qingdaifushi Zhanlantulu (p 140, catalogue no 68)
cf A similar but not so finely carved jadeite pendant sold in these rooms on 2 May 94, lot 1892
