Perhaps one of the most interesting jewellery designers working in the Far East today, Weng Kuong Chao believes in designing jewellery to suit the personality of the client. Studying the Chinese horoscope of potential buyers, he recommends motifs and materials which will be auspicious.
The tourmaline ring offered as Lot 143 is set with the motif of calla lily (baihe hua) to form the rebus or secret meaning bai nian hao he or a hundred years of harmony - an appropriate gift for a wedding or anniversary.
Mr. Chao has been a four time finalist for the Diamond International Award, and was one of two Asian winners of the De Beers' permanent collection of award winning jewellery.
