A RARE JUNYAO OBLONG OCTAGONAL 'NUMBERED' NARCISSUS BOWL

Raised on six short cabriole legs connected by an undulating apron, the shallow rounded sides rising to a flaring beaded rim, all under a thick bubble-suffused purple glaze with large turquoise areas, the base incised with the character liu, number six, encircled by sixteen small spur marks (small foot restoration)

It is relatively rare to find oblong hexagonal narcissus bowls, which are more often of floral, circular or rectangular shape. A similar example from the National Palace Museum, Taiwan, is illustrated in the Catalogue, Chun Ware of the Sung Dynasty, pls. 17, 17a. Cf. also the following lot in the present sale.
