A FINE DOUCAI 'NARCISSUS' DISH
ENCIRCLED YONGZHENG SIX-CHARACTER MARK AND OF THE PERIOD

The centre delicately painted and enamelled with narcissus and red nandina above a small butterfly in flight and lingzhi springing up between tufts of grass and rockwork in underglaze-blue, the reverse with three clusters of rocks, including bamboo and lingzhi, narcissus, and fruiting nandina, all within double-line borders, small glaze flaw to base of underside

Lot Essay

The present example appears to be unique in its inclusion of the butterfly in an otherwise standard design.
