Lot Essay

Previously sold in these Rooms, 17 January 1989, lot 1056.

It is widely known that jadeite material of the best texture, colour and translucency is never carved. The present lot is one of the most massive pieces carved from a single boulder and is very rare in being flawless throughout. The carving of the finial, handles and legs suggest a late Qing date.
