A YELLOW AND GREEN 'DRAGON' BOWL GUANGXU SIX-CHARACTER MARK AND OF THE PERIOD

The exterior finely incised with a pair of five-clawed dragons in pursuit of flaming pearls amid flames and above a border of cresting waves, picked out in a leaf-green enamel reserved on a pale mustard yellow ground continuing in to the interior
5 3/4 in. (14.6 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

Compare a bowl of the same pattern and period, but with a white interior, illustrated by G. Avitabile, From the Dragon's Treasure, Chinese Porcelain from the 19th and 20th Centuries in the Weishaupt Collection, p. 89, fig. 121, where the author states that the colours are for a consort of the third rank, fei.
