AN IRON-RED 'DRAGON' DISH ENCIRCLED KANGXI SIX-CHARACTER MARK AND OF THE PERIOD

Painted in shaded tones of iron-red to the central medallion with a leaping five-clawed dragon beside a flaming pearl, surrounded by pairs of striding dragons in mutual pursuit in the cavetto and to the exterior amid whispy flames, all enclosed by double-line borders, some rubbing to enamels

Previously sold in these Rooms, 18 March 1991, lot 661.

A larger Kangxi dish with a pair of dragons in the centre medallion and four dragons in the well, was included in the O.C.S. Exhibition Iron in the Fire, Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, 1988, Catalogue, no.78.
