The even, semi-translucent stone finely carved with a compressed body supported on three cabriole legs issuing from lion masks, the handles carved as mythical horned lions issuing the squared handles suspending loose rings, the domed cover with a border divided into four panels each with a stylized chilong beneath a reticulated horned dragon and flaming pearl

Lot Essay

Incense burners of this type with undecorated sides are usually much taller with elongated body, such as the jadeite incense burner and cover from the Jingguantang collection sold in these Rooms, 3 November 1996, lot 601. The present lot has a slightly more compressed body which gives it the elegant proportions typical of Qianlong carvings.
