Lot Essay

This pattern seems to be have been inspired by the popular Qianlong famille rose chicken cups of the same subject, such as the two in the Percival David Foundation, Catalogue, Section 2, nos. A823 and A 827. The Catalogue refers to a biographical notice of Jia Chang, the precocious chicken boy, by Ch'en Hung, Tung ch'eng lao fu chuan, in the T'ai-p'ing Kuang-chi, ch. 485, ff. 1a-4a.
