A VERY RARE IVORY AND MOTHER-OF-PEARL GOURD BOX AND COVER
GILT QIANLONG MARK AND OF THE PERIOD

The elongated box and cover carved as a bitter gourd with irregular bosses to the 'skin', the cover enveloped with a mother-of-pearl stem with finely detailed curled leaves and thin tendrils, the interior lacquered with the nianhao written within a rectangular fruiting vine border in gilt (minor replacements)
