Inscribed by the artist on another piece of paper saying that he owned the Dingwu rubbing of the Lanting calligraphy, then he copied this into the painting in the style of an old master (probably Li Gonglin, 1049-1106)

Dated mid-spring, the seventeenth day of the first year of the Tianqi era (1621)
Four colophons: one each by Cheng Zhengkui (1604-1676), Bian Yongyu (1645-1702), Hui Chen (17th century) and Bian Wenyu (1600-1655)
An additional freehand copy of the Lanting calligraphy by Jiang Chenying (1628-1699)
