Compare with several other jade carvings depicting recumbent hounds in this position finely carved to depict the muscular tension below the skin, one in yellow and black jade from the Dr. Arthur Sackler Collection, dated to the Tang dynasty, included in the O.C.S. exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum, Chinese Jades Throughout the Ages, 1975, Catalogue, no. 204; another carved from pale celadon jade from the Joan Barrow Collection dated from the Tang to Song dynasty included in the Bluett and Sons exhibition, Dr. Newton's Zoo, 1981, Catalogue, no. 22; a further white jade example sold in these Rooms, 27 April 1997, no. 584.
