Lot Essay

Jessica Rawson in Chinese Jades From the Neolithic to the Qing, p. 336, notes that plaques surrounded by beadings are characteristic of the Jin and especially Yuan dynasties, and are "suggestive of the metalwork techniques", and that they can be "matched in metalwork belt ornaments both from China and from other, more western parts of Asia."
