The deep sides with a lipped rim, decorated in the centre of the interior with four moulded fish swimming in anti-clockwise direction, the deep well incised with four tiers of overlapping waves, the exterior undecorated, covered overall in a warm olive-green glaze

The use of the fish motif appear on basins as early as the Western Jin period on Yue ware; its popularity, revived in Song celadons, continued well into the Yuan dynasty where it is also found in underglaze-blue wares.
