A FINE AND RARE LONGQUAN CELADON TWELVE-SIDED DISH
14TH/15TH CENTURY

The everted sides divided into twelve sections each containing a panel carved with a floral spray, all below a key-fret border at the rim, the central medallion carved with a trellis pattern enclosed within a floral-shaped panel, the exterior decorated with further floral sprays under a triple-line border at the rim, all above upright lappets radiating from the base, covered in a pale olive-green glaze, the base with a ring burnt orange in the firing

Compare with a similarly-shaped but larger dish with three fish in the central medallion illustrated by Krahl, Chinese Ceramics in the Topkapi Saray Museum, Istanbul, vol. I, cat. no. 364; an octagonal dish without the fish, loc. cit., no. 366.
