A RARE PAIR OF LARGE CLOISONNE ENAMEL VASES

Each of archaic hu shape, the body decorated with deer gambolling and grazing in a continuous rocky landscape with pines below canes and colourful clouds, the shoulder with a collar of rockwork, deer and cranes, the waisted neck with cranes among clouds below ruyi and key-pattern around the rim, the base with lotus petals above deer and cranes around the foot

The emphasis on Longevity expressed through a plethora of deer and cranes can be compared to the similarly-decorated large cloisonne enamel basin in the Uldry Collection illustrated in the Catalogue, col.pls.322a and 322b, and on the large ceromonial censer, op. cit., fig.323
