Château Ducru-Beaucaillou--Vintage 1961
Saint-Julien, 2me cru classé. Château-bottled
Labels damp-affected and damaged, some with remains of labels only. Magnums levels: lots 143 to 154 top-shoulder or better. Lot 155 levels: five top and seven upper-shoulder. Lot 156 levels upper-shoulder. Lot 157 levels: seven upper-shoulder, three mid/upper and two low-shoulder (signs of seepage). Bottles levels: lot 180 upper/top-shoulder. Lot 181 upper-shoulder. Lot 182 twelve upper and twelve mid-shoulder
An unprecedent cache of this great wine - no less than fifty cases in total. With this impreccable provenance and storage, the wine will be in prime condition
Tasting note: Over 30 notes well spread over 22 years and never less than excellent. A lovely, stylish drink throught the 1970s, showing some maturity in the 1980s, with a fully developed classic, cedary bouquet. The overall impression was of a dry wine, but age is appearing to sweeten it as the tannins soften. Lovely wine, lovely texture. (M.B. GVWB II)
