A UNIQUE OFFERING OF FOURTEEN VINTAGES OF CHATEAU SIGALAS-RABAUD
Recently removed from the private reserve cellars of the château and now offered duty-paid but available in bond, lying London, S.E.1

This property, rarely seen at auction due to its relatively small production, has its origins back in the seventeenth century, at which time it formed the smaller part of Château Rabaud. The name of the property originates from the marriage in 1660 of Marie-Peyronne de Rabaud to Monsieur de Cazeau, whose descendants were the owners through until 1819.

At this time, as reported in the "Guide Jullien" of 1832, the reputation of the wines of this château were considered on a par with those of Lafaurie-Peyraguey, its neighbour in Bommes, Sudiraut, in Preignac and with Yquem and Guiraud in Sauternes. Hence, in the classification of 1855, the wines of Rabaud were ranked along with these wines as "Premiers Crus".

In 1863, M. Henri de Sigalas acquired the estate and added his name to it. His son Pierre, great-grandson of the present owner, sold in 1905 two thirds, the part of the vineyard situated to the North and West, to M. Adrien Promis, this becoming Château Rabaud-Promis. The part of the Château retained as Château Sigalas-Rabaud was the gravel-based vineyard with a southerly aspect.

The two parts of the vineyard were reunited briefly between 1930 and 1950, following which the Marquise de Lambert de Granges, the grand-daughter of M. de Sigalas took back under her control that part of the property considered the finest by her grandfather.

The property is still today in the ownership of the Lambert de Granges family.

The vineyard, comprising 14 hectares, is planted 85 Semillon and 15 Sauvignon Blanc. The wines have a reputation of offering an unusually delicate, fragrant and perfumed style of sauternes with great elegance and finesse.

This represents an exceptional opportunity to acquire wines of perfect provenance, directly from the cellars of this highly renowned estate.
