The following lots 1 to 19 comprise the balance of the magnificent private cellar which was sold at Christie's on 20th March. All the wines were purchase en primeur and have been stored since original shipment in a perfect vaulted and impeccably maintained cellar n a beautiful seventeenth century hunting lodge in the east of France.
The deceptively capacious cave, the door to which is extremely cleverly concealed behing a specifically constructed cabinet, maintains a constand and entirely natural 11 C and approximately 70 humidity. The case with which these wines have been stored is a testament to the connoisseurship of the owner, whose family have been "amateur" of great wines.
All wines were immediately binned in metal racks (which have a capscity for some 5,000 bottles) upon delivery. For shipment for this sale they have been checked and repacked into neutral wooden claret cases supplied from Bordeaux.
This sale, on behalf of the private owner, a noted French businessman, represents a thinning-out exercise in order to make room in the cellar, and provides an excellent opportunity to buy top-quality wines from a range of highly-regarded 1980s vintages
