Durand, Joseph. A printed and manuscrip record of taxes paid to Joseph Durand 1714-1792. Large 8vo (259 x 180mm), manuscript title "Livre de Taux à Joseph Durand de Nuis MDCCXXXVI," each leaf printed with list of wines ("Les Vins Rouges du Clos de Vougeot, les Vins de Chambolle, Les Vins de Morey"" etc) with the year date and tax paid supplied in manuscript. Small tear in title, small worm hole. Contemporary patterned paper boards (lightly worn). This account completed in manuscript recording the taxes paid on wine to Joseph Durand provides a fascinating insight into the wine trade in Burgundy throughout the 18th centruy. Durand appears to have been one of the officials collecting wine duty. Amongst the wines under his responsibility were "Nuys S. Georges, Cailles, Clos de Vougeot, Flagey, Chambolle, Corgoloin and Chagniots". In addition to the taxes on wines, taxes on peas, turnips, rape and walnut oil are recorded accompanied by occasional vintage and other notes on particular years. Further 18th and 19th century accounts have been added on the fly leaves.
