Details
Saint-Emilion, 1er grand cru classé. English-bottled by Avery's of Bristol
Levels: three base of neck, six top and six upper-shoulder
This represents several summits: a superb Bordeaux vintage, Thierry Manoncourt firmly in the saddle and making superb wine, and under Ronald Avery, Bristol bottling at its best. Served by Jack at a Bordeaux Club dinner in December 1991: deep, intense for a '53; lovely bouquet; gloriously rich, rounded, fleshy and harmonious. A beautiful wine, well bottled, well cellared. M.B.
