Pomerol. English-bottled by John Harvey & Sons
Remains of labels only. Levels: four base of neck, two top, two upper and one mid/upper-shoulder
A peak period for Harvey bottling, too. Also, coincidentally, both Harveys and Averys were amongst the first to appreciate Pomerols, as was Jack Plumb himself. One tends to forget that English merchants and connoisseurs were almost totally unaware of Pomerol prior to the great 1945, 1947 and 1949 vintages which put them on the map. Served at a Bordeaux Club dinner at Christie's in June 1987, delicate, fragrant, charming - totally unlike recent Pomerol mouthfillers. M.B.
