New capsule. Bin-soiled and faded label. Level top-shoulder
It is quite extraordinary to find such a rare bottle from so famous a vintage in such fine condition
1784 was the most famous vintage of the period, and has always enjoyed an outstanding reputation. Thomas Jefferson is recorded as having written as follows:
To Alexander Donald, Paris Feb 15 1788 "It is of the best vintage which has happened in nine years (the 1784)" and to President Pichard (at the time the owner of Château Lafite) "The excellent wines called La Fite (sic). If you have some of the 1784 vintage, and if you could accomodate me with 250 bottles, I would be infinitely grateful"
