1988: the first of three remarkably good Sauternes vintages. It is unusual enough to have two good years in a row; three is unprecedented. Because of the relatively poor 1991s, 1992s and 1993s, the three previous vintages will soon become scarce and high-priced. The Domaine Rothschild took a controlling interest in Rieussec in the mid 1980s. JMB
