MAGNIFICENT BORDEAUX.The Property of a Private Collector. The following 80 lots are part of a collection created for a client in the late 1980's and early 1990's by Judy Beardsall of the wine advisory firm Beardsall & Associates. The collecting effort focused on great classic Bordeaux of the Twentieth Century in fine condition and obtained from reliable sources. Beardsall & Associates took advantage of the dispersal of Nicolas stocks through the trade to obtain full cases of wines formerly in the Nicolas Reserves. If well-stored since release, Nicolas bottles will afford collectors the opportunity to taste wines in the best possible condition. It is most unusual now for full cases of such rarities to appear at auction. All wines in this collection were obtained through top European and U.S. fine wine brokers, and have been stored under ideal conditions, some in a temperature and humidity-controlled wine cellar custom-built by Beardsall & Associates, and the balance in professional storage. Nicolas Reserve wines are identified as "ex-Nicolas" in the catalogue descriptions..
Château Mouton-Rothschild--Vintage 1924
Details
Château Mouton-Rothschild--Vintage 1924
.Pauillac, 1er cru classé.
.Level: just below top shoulder. Embossed château capsule. Carlu label in fine condition.
.This impériale is one of six believed to have been bottled. Two others are known to exist, one in an English collection and another in the reserves of the Chateau. Familiar to the French wine expert Albert Bogé, this impériale remained in a fine French private cellar for many years before sale to the present owner through the Bordeaux trade. The importance of this bottle is not only the superb wine Mouton produced in this vintage, but also the introduction of the artist label (by Carlu). The label startled the wine trade and was one of the first of many innovations in wine marketing made by the young Baron Philippe de Rothschild. The magnum-sized label was the largest size used in this vintage.
."...lovely colour, glorious sheen; bouquet delicate, harmonious but low-keyed at first though it blossomed in the glass and held well for a couple of hours; slightly sweet, medium weight, luxuriant flavour, length and finish. Lovely." GVWB
