Property of an American Collector
The property offered below is part of a major private collection of Bordeaux acquired and managed on behalf of the consignor by Judith Beardsall of the Wine Advisory firm Beardsall & Associates, Inc. The collection belongs to an American businessman with substantial cellars in France, England, and the Northeastern United States. The owner, a wine lover passionate about collecting the best wines in substantial quantities, began purchasing wines under the guidance of Beardsall & Associates in the mid-1980's. The long-term strategy devised to build the collection involved negotiations with top brokers and negociants, taking advantage of opportunities as they arose to purchase large stocks, both en primeur and in the aftermarket, especially during the late 1980's and the wine "recession" in the early 1990's when the 1982 vintage was available in quantities no longer seen. Wines were purchased for drinking, entertaining, gift-giving, and the sheer excitement of collecting on a major scale.
The collection is maintained in professional storage facilities, as well as climate-controlled private cellars built and monitored by Beardsall & Associates and located in three of the owner's residences. The Bordeaux from the 1989 and 1990 vintages offered below have only been moved twice, from the Chateaux to storage in England, and to the U.S. for this sale.
This offering, part of an ongoing strategy to balance a constantly growing and changing collection, presents collectors with a rare opportunity to buy large well-stored parcels of the greatest wines from the "Golden Decade" of Bordeaux, 1982-1990, in quantities very hard to find in the marketplace today.
