Pomerol, cru exceptionnel Lots 1234-1236 in original wooden cases
Lot 1233 levels: five top and one upper shoulder. Lot 1234: top shoulder or better; lightly soiled labels. Lot 1235: top shoulder or better with soiled labels and five corroded capsules. Lot 1236: eight top shoulder or better and four upper shoulder; lightly soiled labels; one torn and one corroded capsule. Lot 1237: five top shoulder or better, four just below top, and three upper shoulder; lightly soiled labels and two with signs of seepage
Last tasted 29 April, 1997. Medium deep blackish violet color, surprisingly consistent to rim. A fabulously rich sweet nose, reminiscent of various desserts--plum pudding, mango, and strawberry soup; on the palate the superb sweet fruit masks considerable "old-school-style" tannins, and dominates them through a long, decadent, and aromatic finish. Highest marks. FCH
