Someries House was a family London residence thought to be named after the ruined castle near to Luton Hoo.

The desk's marquetry relates to that of a group of commodes that are likely to have been executed in Dublin. One of these was sold from Carton, Maynooth at Christie's King Street, 13 May 1926, lot 107; another, bearing the trade label of the 19th century Dublin cabinet-maker and retailer P.J. Walsh, was sold on 21 May, 1970, lot 113, while a third was sold 9 April 1987, lot 91.
