2°, 138 leaves only (of 148), 44 lines (varies), gothic type, 3 hand-coloured double-page woodcut views only (of 7), 12 woodcuts of Levantine people, buildings and alphabets only (of 15), including 7 hand-coloured, 2 hand-coloured woodcuts, initials, paragraph marks and capital strokes in red or blue (lacking frontispiece, supplied in facsimile, also lacking maps, 12 fold-out sheets, 4 views, 3 woodcuts and 10 leaves, erased inscription on upper margin of dedication, marginal laminated repair to verso of view of Corfu, light mainly marginal thumb-soiling, a few light stains), old blind-stamped calf, clasps (clasps supplied from another copy, some worming especially to rear cover), sprinkled edges.

FIRST EDITION of Breydenbach's journey to Palestine and Mount Sinai. It was printed with Peter Schoeffer's type, although Erhard Reuwich, the artist of the woodblocks, names himself as the printer in the colophon. Goff B1189. Sold not subject to return.
