Lot Essay

Pink was in Brazil from 1821 to 1825, an amateur artist and member of the English trading company G.T. Standfast & Co. in Rio de Janeiro. For his 'Sketches in Brazil taken during a Residence there, in the years 1821, 22, 23, 24 & 1825', including forty-four views in the City and Province of Rio de Janeiro and twenty seven views in the City and Province of Sao Paulo, see Christie's (London), 15 May 1994, lots 39-43. The rare Sao Paulo views have been subsequently published in P. Corrêa do Lago, Iconografia Paulistana Do Século XIX, Sao Paulo, 1998, pp. 58-67.
