Lot Essay

Probably by Alexandre. Fans of similar layout signed Alexandre are known, including one exhibited in the Karlsruhe Exhibition, 1891. plate 26 and another sold at Sotheby's in 1981.

Edouard Jean Baptiste Moreau (1825-1878), exhibited at the Salon between 1848 and 1875. He painted in gouache and miniatures on vellum, specialising in historic subjects. A fan by him, Un tournoi au Moyen Age, sold in the Alexandre sale, 1875 for 405fr.
