In Dr. No James Bond is seen wearing a blue overcoat over his dinner suit when arriving at the offices of Universal Exports having been called away from his gambling club Le Cercle, Les Ambassadeurs, London by M at 3 a.m. He tosses his hat and hangs up his coat on the hat stand in Moneypenny's office prior to receiving his consignment from M, and leaves following his interview with M, carrying the coat over his arm.

According to Nick Sullivan, Bond's ...traditional velvet-collared overcoat...in 'Dr No'...was deliberately chosen to establish his cinema credentials as a traditionalist, just as the way he always throws his hat..onto the stand, signals his rebellious streak...
