South Persia, Last Quarter 19th Century
Of an open format with a serrated medallion on an indigo ground on each bagface separated by a striped kilim
Approximately 7ft. 7in. x 2ft. 8in. (231cm. x 81cm.)

Lot Essay

Warp: wool, ivory, Z2S
Weft: wool, dyed red, Z2S, 2 shoots alternating, first taut, second wavy
Pile: wool, Z2, symmetric, pulled left, 80 degree with warp depression, H15 x V14
Sides: one pair of body warps wrapped in mahogany Z2 wool, possibly old rewrapping
Ends: both: approximately 1/2 inch soumac wrapping in Z2S wool in polychrome stripes on black balanced Z2 wool plain weave; then 3/4inch weft-face plainweave Z2 wool panels for tie loops; black plainweave resumes average 1 inch, hemmed under
Colors: navy, dark and light blue, ivory, red, brown-black, blue-green, rust, crimson, mustard, green, medium blue, straw, khaki, medium brown (15)

This rare type of bag is even more desirable as it is in complete condition with the braid, backs and tie loops intact.
