A bronze figure of Parvati
South India, Tamilnadu, Chola period, 12th/13th Century
Crisply cast standing in tribhanga on a circular lotus pedestal, supported by a waisted square plinth applied with loop ring handles at the corners, with the right hand raised in katakamukha mudra and the pendent left in lola mudra, wearing a closely fitting dhoti tied with a sash at the waist, multi-tiered necklaces and beaded bracelets, her face with large almond-shaped eyes and aquiline nose in an alert expression, her hair arranged in tiered karandamukuta and adorned with a floral tiara, backed by a flowerhead-shaped aureole
