The large rounded usnisa and flattened spiral or curvilinear style of the hair is a feature found on figures of Northern Qi date such as the white marble figure of Buddha illustrated by Oswald Sirn, Chinese Sculpture, rev. ed., Thailand, 1998, vol.I, pl. 253 and the figure of Buddha illustrated in the Catalogue for the exhibition, The Art of Contemplation - Religious Sculpture from Private Collections, National Palace Museum, Taipei, 1997, pp. 94-95, pl. 22. Compare, also, the head of Buddha, without the rounded usnisa but with similar waves and similar facial features, also included in the exhibition and illustrated ibid., p. 138, pl. 43. The slightly more extreme curving slant of the eyes, sensual mouth and small dimpled chin are quite similar to those of a head of a bodhisattva dated Sui, illustrated ibid., p. 165, pl. 62.
