A GEORGE II MAHOGANY AND PARCEL-GILT BUREAU-CABINET
The rectanglar cornice with egg-and-dart moulding above a pair of shaped panelled mirror-backed doors with egg-and-dart moulding, enclosing an interior with central conforming mirror-glazed door, flanked by pilaster-fronted drawers and folio-divides, above a pigeon-holes and variously-sized drawers, the hinged writing-slope enclosing a central door flanked by pilaster-fronted drawers, four short drawers and four pigeon-holes to each side, the lower section with a pair of short drawers with sliding panels, flanking a central drawer, above three long graduated drawers, on bracket feet, minor restorations to the cock beading, the mirrors later, probably originally with further folio-divides,the back with printed paper label 'HEIRLOOM', the candle-slide element probably a replacement, and therefore the top section itself, origingally taller and partially adapted, the top and base possibly associated

This bureau-cabinet's mirrored doors, in elegantly serpentined frames, relate to those of a George II cabinet bearing the 1740s label of Giles Grendey (d.1780), C. Gilbert Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture 1700-1840, Leeds, 1986, p. 240, fig. 432.
