The cartouche-shaped padded back, outscrolled arms and serpentine seat covered in pale-green damask, above a fluted seat-rail flanked by paterae, on ring-turned and tapering fluted legs and toupie feet, the undersided inscribed in white paint '173/2161/1013' and with plastic label 'OM1013', the feet tipped, redecorated, one arm with repaired break

The general form of the fluted frame relates to a design for the green and gold drawing-room 'cabriole elbow chairs' at Audley End, Essex executed in 1771 under the direction of the architect Robert Adam (d.1792) by Messrs Gordon and Taitt of Swallow Street (J. Cornforth, 'Audley End, Essex-T, Country Life, 27 December 1990, pp.32 and 3).
