A ROMANO-EGYPTIAN GOLD PENDANT WITH BUST OF APHRODITE
1ST-2ND CENTURY A.D.
The disc of sheet gold in repoussé technique, the bust of the draped goddess in high relief wearing a stephane decorated with dotted scrolls and a necklace with triangular pendants and dotted terminals, her wavy hair parted in the middle and drawn back in curling tresses at the sides, her right arm folded across her breast with her right hand outspread save for the third finger which is bent down, a diminutive winged Eros hovers at her right shoulder, enclosed within a beaded gold wire border, a ribbed suspension loop above with single gold granule at its base
1.3/8 in. (3.5 cm.) high; 1.1/8 in. (3 cm.) diam.
