Lot Essay

The original edition of Views of Switzerland, one of the first papier peints paysages to be produced, was published after designs by Pierre-Antoine Mangin. He used a variety of sources including contemporary engravings and romantic landscape paintings by artists such as Caspar Wolf (see O. Nouvel-Kammerer, Papier Peints Panoramiques, Paris, 1991, pp. 294-5).
