Batrix-Stphanie (1764-1842) was the daughter of Marie-Anne de Chaumont-Quitry, a childhood friend of Madame de Pompadour. Batrix-Stphanie, married the Marquis de Lage de Volude in 1782 and left interesting memoirs of their emigration (owing to the Revolution), and of the Empire and the Restoration. Batrix was a lady-in-waiting to Thrse-Louise de Savoie-Cargnan, the Princesse de Lamballe.
The bust must date from after Batrix's marriage in 1782, and indeed presumably from after 1788, the date inscribed on the socle.
