The carcase mid-18th Century, possibly German, the lacquer early 19th Century
The serpentine breche d'alep marble top above a pair of doors centrally decorated with circular reserves depicting chinoiserie scenes of figures by a bridge amid landscapes and with stylized foliate scroll spandrels, the sides similarly decorated with scroll-cast chutes and apron, on arched bracket feet, with metal plaque inside door imprinted 1K1468, the mounts possibly English, Mid-18th Century

Lot Essay

As the earliest known imports of Nagasaki lacquer date to circa 1800, it is probable that this is a plainer mid-18th century commode which was embellished with lacquer early in the 19th Century.
