Details
A SET OF EIGHT SPANISH ROCOCO WALNUT AND PARCEL-GILT DINING CHAIRS
Mid-18th Century
Comprising two side and six arm chairs, each arched eared and ruffle-carved crestrail above a pierced interlaced scroll splat over a drop-in seat covered in polychrome striped cut velvet on rocaille-carved cabriole legs joined by a waved H-stretcher, on webbed ball-and-claw feet (8)
Provenance
By repute, these chairs were part of a large set supplied to the King of Spain, possibly Ferdinand VI (1746-1759)

Lot Essay

The undulating profile and unusual design of the interlaced splat on these chairs is similar to a pair in the Palacio de Monterrey, Salamanque, illustrated in L. Feduchi, El Mueble Espaol, Barcelona, 1969, p. 173, pl. 147.
